Magazine Design – AGE Network, Nigeria

A gender lens magazine focusing on equality towards women.

The Moment for Women Alliance is a non-profit organisation centred around improving gender equality in Nigeria and outward.

As a newly established organisation, Moment For Women has the vital mission of establishing a digital presence and ensuring that diverse and crucial voices are heard through digital mediums. With a primary target audience of youth, it is essential to solidify a strong presence on various social media platforms. Moreover, the monthly Moment For Women magazine serves as a powerful vehicle for conveying important messages and highlighting the achievements of women. This collective effort contributes significantly to advancing women’s empowerment, not only within Nigeria but also on a broader international scale.

My role

My role involves giving the organisation a fresh visual identity, making contributions to the design of monthly magazines focusing on gender and equality issues. I’m also responsible for reinvigorating and establishing social media platforms, regularly designing engaging social media posts. Additionally, I contribute to the design of STEM girls’ t-shirts, showcasing our commitment to girls in STEM fields. Furthermore, I communicate with fellow volunteers worldwide who share a similar vision for achieving Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality (SDG-5)

Being an organisation that was on a halt for a few months with limited activity, there was a need for a design refresh. Generally, the quality of graphics was inadequate; therefore, upgrading to better quality graphics and portraying the organisation’s goals and updates to its audience would instantly make the organisation more legit.

I saw an opportunity to upgrade the visuals for the organisation, including making the logo better, providing a colour palette, improving social media presence, and visualising the editorial content portraying women’s stories in a better way through Moment For Women Magazine. Considering that it was a non-profit with limited funding, very drastic changes were not appreciated by the project lead. This meant that print material with too much difference from their previous identity would bring more cost, which was not appreciated. This had to be kept in mind with every design change.

Old logo identity
New logo identity

Along with this alteration in the logo, there was an introduction to consistent social media posts. The post sizes were amended according to each social platform to optimise the viewing experience.
