No Waste Challenge: Adobe & WDCD

2 day design sprint

The problem of waste is ever-increasing and had a broad problem to tackle which was around reducing waste. During this short sprint, I’ve explored if there is something that we can do about this whilst incorporating design thinking methodology. We, later on, tried to understand how to narrow this problem down so that we can tackle one area of this problem and find a solution.

The two-day design thinking sprint

A two-day design thinking sprint was organised jointly by What Design Can Do (WDCD) and Adobe, aiming to leverage design thinking to address real-world issues. This sprint vividly demonstrates the capacity of design thinking to generate numerous solutions and rapidly produce a prototype concept for testing and refinement within a matter of days.

During this intensive two-day sprint, participants from diverse professional backgrounds. I formed a team consisting of two designers (myself included) and one researcher, collaborated to brainstorm innovative approaches to combat consumer waste. It was a truly collaborative effort, uniting individuals from across the globe. As a collective, we chose to focus on the reduction of electronic product waste and the extension of the lifespan of electronic products. Toward the sprint’s conclusion, I conducted a presentation to showcase our solution to a global audience.

Below, I provide an overview of the process we followed to unearth a solution to a real-world problem.

My Role

In my role, I actively participated as a group member throughout the session. I provided assistance during all phases of the sprint, which encompassed conducting workshops and engaging in the prototyping process. I made valuable contributions towards shaping the final solution and played a role in the presentation delivered at the culmination of the sprint.

The problem

Our current value systems are driving overconsumption and leading us to a detached relationship with nature.

How can we inspire the users of fewer natural resources and consume more mindfully?
